Dr. Speciouza Birungi

A Vision Rooted in Compassion, Service and Hope

Never Alone Haven of Mercy (NA-HOM) was founded through the vision and dedication of Dr. Speciouza Birungi, an accomplished administrator, educator, and community advocate whose life has been defined by resilience, servant leadership, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others.

With decades of professional service in higher education, Dr. Birungi has demonstrated exceptional dedication to leadership, institutional development, and mentorship. As one of the pioneer staff members of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), she played a significant role in supporting the University’s early growth, serving as the first secretary to the founding Vice Chancellor, Prof. F.I.B. Kayanja, and later to the Academic Registrar. Her career reflects a remarkable journey of commitment, integrity, and continuous professional advancement.

Driven by a passion for lifelong learning, Dr. Birungi earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), a milestone that has inspired many professionals to pursue academic excellence regardless of age or circumstance. Her achievement stands as a powerful reminder that determination, perseverance, and purpose can overcome obstacles and create opportunities for personal and societal transformation.

Inspired by her experiences and a deep concern for vulnerable members of society, Dr. Birungi established Never Alone Haven of Mercy to create a platform where compassion is transformed into meaningful action. Her vision is centred on empowering vulnerable children through education, supporting elderly persons with dignity and care, and strengthening communities through sustainable, people-centred initiatives.

As Executive Director and Vision Bearer, Dr. Birungi provides strategic leadership for the organization, fostering a culture of compassion, accountability, collaboration, and excellence. She believes that every individual deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, hope, and purpose, and that lasting transformation is achieved when communities, volunteers, partners, and supporters work together toward a common goal.

Today, her leadership continues to inspire NA-HOM’s commitment to restoring dignity, inspiring hope, and transforming lives. Through her vision, the organization strives to build resilient communities where vulnerable children can realise their potential, older persons are respected and supported, and compassion becomes a catalyst for sustainable development.

“True leadership is measured by the positive difference we make in the lives of others. Through compassion, service, and shared responsibility, we can build communities where no one is left behind.”
